After nearly 2 years in Korea, I finally visited the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The DMZ serves as a buffer between North and South Korea. The tour had several stops, including the Joint Security Area, where for 5 minutes I was allowed to walk into North Korea inside a United Nations conference room. I peered over the border at North Korea’s second largest city and watched North Korean military police on guard just a stone’s throw away. The above photos were taken via my iPhone at the Joint Security Area within the DMZ. The concrete building in the first photo is in North Korea. The second photo was taken from within the UN conference room while I was standing in North Korea, and features a South Korean military police on guard. In short, it was a sobering experience that left me with many thoughts.
